The Risks

A non-compliant fire door install voids the fire rating

Wrong components, wrong rating

Mixing leaves, frames and ironmongery from incompatible test evidence collapses the assembly's fire rating.

Out of tolerance gaps

Even a few millimetres outside the manufacturer's gap tolerance can fail the door at first inspection.

No installer certification

Without third-party certified installers, you can't evidence competence to Building Control or the duty holder.

Why It Matters

A fire door is only as good as its installation

A certified door leaf installed badly is not a fire door. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and the Building Safety Act both rely on the assumption that fire doors actually perform. Certified installation is what makes that real.
Third-party certified installers
Manufacturer-tested components only
Documented gap tolerances
Correct intumescent and smoke seals
Self-closer pressure tested
Photographic evidence per door

Fire Door Installation FAQs

What makes a fire door installation compliant?
A compliant installation uses a certified door leaf, frame and ironmongery from compatible test evidence, fitted to the manufacturer's gap tolerances by a third-party certified installer, with intumescent strips, smoke seals, signage and a working self-closer.
Why does third-party installer certification matter?
Schemes like BM Trada Q-Mark provide independent assurance that installers have been assessed for competence and that installations are regularly audited. It's the evidence Building Control and duty holders look for.
Can you install in occupied buildings?
Yes. We work in occupied residential, healthcare and education buildings every day, with resident liaison, dust control and same-day make-good so the building stays operational.
Do you supply the doors as well as install them?
Yes. We supply complete certified assemblies — leaf, frame, ironmongery, seals and signage from compatible test evidence — and install them as a single accountable package.
What evidence do you provide on completion?
A handover pack with photographic evidence per door, installer certification, manufacturer data sheets, ironmongery schedules and a digital asset register suitable for the Golden Thread.
How quickly can you mobilise?
For most programmes we can survey within a week and start installation within two to three weeks. Urgent enforcement notices are prioritised.
Do you handle the ironmongery as well?
Yes — hinges, closers, locks, latches, vision panels and signage are all specified and fitted as part of the certified assembly.
Do you provide an installation guarantee?
Yes. All installations are covered by our workmanship warranty, alongside the manufacturer's product warranty on the assembly itself.
Why It Matters

Fire door installation problems we engineer out

Most failed fire door inspections trace back to a handful of recurring installation issues. We design these out before the first door goes in.
Excessive perimeter gaps
Threshold gap over tolerance
Missing intumescent strips
Non-tested ironmongery combinations
Wrong number or size of hinges
Self-closer not fully closing
Incorrect signage or none at all
Glazing systems not part of test evidence
